Queen Letizia just channelled Queen Elizabeth II as she got very important gift

The Queen of Spain went full Elizabeth II and clearly loved every moment of it. Queen Letizia took official receipt of an historic gift and no one can blame her for revelling in the significance.

Letizia was presented with her official portrait. Every monarch and consort in Spain is recorded for posterity with the result hanging in the Bank of Spain. And as they are all about the 21st century and very determined to move away from Spain's past royal images, Felipe VI and Letizia went full on modern  and chose photographic portraits by one of the most famous artists in the world.

That's where the Queen Elizabeth II link comes in. The portraits were taken by Annie Leibowitz, the star photographer whose work is among the most sought after in the world. Her most famous royal images remain the sets she took of Queen Elizabeth II.

Whether Letizia had a full on queen moment with the American star isn't known. Leibovitz got a full dose of Queen Elizabeth II's famous wit when the photographer suggested their sitting could be more regal. The longest reigning Monarch in British history was far from impressed with that suggestion and Annie L retreated.

The Spanish royals looked thrilled to welcome her to Madrid and were happy to listen to her ideas as they looked at the portraits which are on show as part of an exhibition called 'The Tyranny of Chronos''.
